The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, a private, independent grant-making institution, has committed to investing $150 million in rental housing preservation through its Window of Opportunity initiative. Through 2007, developers funded by the initiative had helped preserve more than 45,000 units of affordable rental homes throughout the country.
